The Château de Pierrefonds was created at the end of the 16th century at the instigation of Louis d'Orléans , the brother of King Charles VI. Over the years, the castle has been the victim of many destructions. It was not until the 19th century that the building gave itself a second life. It will first be classified as a Historic Monument in 1848. A few years later, Napoleon III will launch its restoration by appointing the architect Viollet-le-Duc . The latter reinvents the fortress of the Middle Ages using the most modern construction techniques. Viollet-le-Duc thus became one of the pioneers in the restoration of old buildings.

Today, the Château de Pierrefonds is an internationally renowned castle. Tens of thousands of visitors come to visit it every year. Overlooking the lake, it makes Pierrefonds a bucolic village full of charm.

Our postcard illustrates the incredible view of the Château de Pierrefonds with its lake in the foreground.

Size: 148mm X 105mm.
